Back to How To's

How do I change the look and feel of my website

There are two main ways to do this.

  1. Use ready made themes from
  2. Create your own themes

PHpmotion is 100% template based. This means that we have separated the design elements from all the complex code and processes.

We call the various designs that you can apply to your website Themes. All themes are to be uploaded via FTP into the /themes directory

To create your own themes you will need to have some knowledge for HTML and also the template engine that we use TinyButStrong

If you decide to use ready made themes from, instruction will be provided on how to use and apply them to your site

Creating your own themes

These are the basic steps to follow:

  1. Make a copy of the default theme /themes/default and save it as anything you like e.g. /themes/mytheme.
  2. Use a good HTML editor like Dream Weaver to edit and change the various HTMLand CSS files.
  3. Upload the finished product into your FTP.
  4. Login to your Siteadmin Control Panel and click on Themes on the top menu. Apply your new theme.

When editing the HTML files, there are various things to look out for. Examples are shown below:

Loading a block of HTML when certain condition are met. In this can the block is <script>xyz xyz </script> but it can be any valid html
opening and closing tags.

<!--[onload;block=script;when [var.greybox]=1;comm]-->

This is a variable that is being displayed. It looks like an HTML comment, however when the page is loaded, it will be substitued by
value of the variable $lang_word_videos

This is the same as above but its not a comment but works in the same way. Using comments as show above just makes things tidy

It would not be practical for us to go into the full details and working of the the template engine we use. We suggest some further reading at TinyButStrong Manual
